VST Plugins

Here's a list of some of the amp and effects sims I use when I'm making demos. I got these free off the Internet. You can download them, if you like. They run as inserts in many digital audio workstations (DAWs). They were great for helpinig me get a bunch of versitile sounds out of my guitars without having to buy a bunch of different amps and effects pedals. By the time I went into Parrot Tracks Studio to record the CD, I knew just what types of real equipment I wanted to use.

Many of these plugins use beautiful graphic components created by Requietus. All copyrights and trademarks apply to their respective owners. Please read the license agreements for each before using.

Aradaz GreenGreat high-gain amp sim. The tubes glow brighter when you push the amp more.
Aradaz WhiteAnother great high-gainer.
FA3Full Cool free version of commercial amp sim. It's got a bunch of effects pedals and even speaker emulations.
Grease TubeGreat amp sim, but I dont use it much. The tube glows on this one too.
Green GateSometimes the amp sims get noisy and you need to gate them.
G-TuneSuper easy to use tuner; just add as an insert.
Juicy 77Sweet high-gain amp sim. More glowing tubes.
MXR Phase 90This is modeled after the Eddie Van Halen one. Love this for making the slide guitar sound a little soupy.
Guitar Suite

The mother of them all; has the following:

  • Fender Twin
  • Marshall JCM 900
  • Boss DS1 Overdrive
  • Boss SD1 Distortion
  • Ibanez Tube Screamer
  • Oberhiem Phase Shifter
  • Univox Univibe

They sound great, but the amps don't have  resident speaker cabinets and either need to be run through a live speaker or through speaker impulses responses using Voxengo Boogex as the IR host. The Univibe is awesome, though. I use it on a lot of electric rhythm parts.

Saro One of my favorites. Modeled after a small DIY amp kit, I crank it and use it for a bunch of slide stuff. More glowing tubes.
Tube BabyVery versatile sim. I use this one a lot. This one has the most variety of sounds and it's very dependable.
Voxengo BoogexI set the EQ flat on this one and then use it to host speaker impulse responses (IRs). It also has some pretty cool tone presets of its own.
Wagner Sharp MKIICool high-gain sim that I use on some lead stuff now and then.
