| Where the Truth Lies |

The phrase "where the truth lies" has always been one of my favorite oxymorons. So when I was recording the songs for my new CD, many of which deal with various perceptions of truth, I thought it only fitting to use the phrase as the title. "Where the Truth Lies" represents something of a departure for me musically. It's my first solo project. It's the first recording I've made of my own material. And it's the first time I've sung lead vocals on a recording. I've sung a little before in live performances, but I've never really been out front before leading the band. But that changed last year when I took up playing the guitar again after many years of dormancy. To get my creative juices flowing again, I bought a new guitar for my 52nd birthday. I got a Taylor NS64ce -- a nylon-string, acoustic-electric. It was so different from the Ovation Balldeer I'd been playing for the past 30 years. The neck was wider; the strings thicker. It changed the way I played guitar. So with my new guitar and a few more years and not too few heavy experiences under my belt, I decided to write some songs of my own. It's funny ... for years, I couldn't write my own songs. I was afraid they wouldn't be as good as the music I've loved listening to since I was a little kid back in the early 60s when I would sneak my sister's transistor radio under my pillow at night and listen to Weird Beard on KILT, the local Top 40 radio station. But now I just had these songs pouring out of me. It seemed like they had to be written, and so when I sat down to write, they just came out. It didn't matter anymore that they might not be as good as someone else's songs. It just mattered that I had a chance to be a vessel when the muse called. After working up the new tunes with brothers Steve and Bob Voorhies, it turned out they sounded pretty good. We decided they needed to be recorded. And so we headed to Parrot Tracks Studio and began recording the "Where the Truth Lies" album. I'll announce a release date for the CD once we get a little closer to finishing it. Thanks for your support. I'm getting really excited about the album. I can't wait to share it with you. Peace, Ric Fox |
